2007 BLUE MOUNTAIN GORGES CHALLENGE SUNDAY 25TH March 2007 starts 7.30 am at the Peel Forest Hall Geraldine Click here for the >> 2007 Provisional Results When former Geraldine resident, Peter Dobson first organised the Mt Peel Mountain Bike Marathon, he realised that there also needed to be an event that catered for all levels of ability, so the Blue Mountain Gorges Challenge was born. The Blue Mountain Gorges Challenge starts at the Peel Forest Hall, Geraldine, South Canterbury at 7.30 am on Sunday 9th April 2006. It is held in conjunction with the Marathon, with both races starting at the same time, but leaving in different directions. Blue Mountain is approximate 55 - 60 kms and is a very enjoyable ride. It is NOT technical, but there is a bit of climbing, but then there is also the downhills. The course takes you up the Orari Gorge to Blue Mountain and then returns via Bernards and Andrews streams, with numerous water crossings throughout the event. The Scenery brillliant, and the ride well worth the effort. Last years winner was Darren Tatom in a time of 3hours, 45 minutes, 10 seconds, while those out for the enjoyable days' riding took around 6 hours to cover the distance. Why not make 2006 your year to give it a try. Coal Hill Times 2005
