Message for Mountain Bikers from the Canterbury District Health Board

If you are riding on Land, either in an organised event or socially with your mates, which has been used by stock, the CDHB advise that.....

Contact with animal faeces can cause infection from several dangerous bacteria such as salmonella, giardia, cryptosporidium, campylobacter and E.coli 0157 all of which can cause severe illness.

It is suggested that you take note of the following...

Do not drink or eat anything which is contaminated with soil, mud etc.
Wash hands before eating using soapy water - preferably hot.
If you get mud on the face take care to clean if off properly to avoid ingestion.
Drink only from safe water supplies.
Clean bikes and clothing carefully
If dirt is swallowed be aware of any subsequent symptons and seek medical help if necessary.

Contact Epic — NZ’s Ultimate MTB Challenge - April 24, 2010

A once a year opportunity to race the full 125 km circumference of Lake Hawea, near Wanaka(95km option). Enjoy the remoteness and wilderness of this event.
